Exhibition Information
The Youngeun Art Museum will hold ‘TT’ by Lee Hye-Sun of Youngeun Creative Studio from Dec 21 to Jan 22, 2020, which is a part of the Youngeun Art Studio Project. She gets inspired in the current city where we live. Especially, not on fancy images, but on people and buildings which are basic compositions of city. The city we live is often called the city of gray concrete. In this concrete material, the author discovers the modern aesthetics of modern art. Connecting between rivers to function as a city, steel structures for building foundations are not for beauty, but only for function. These structures have simple and regular features, so they are exactly in line with the sculptural values sought by modern sculpture. The inspiration for this exhibition began with a psychological test drawing by Lee Hye-Sun, who played around with people around her. When asked to paint snakes and flowers, the author described a snake sitting in a coil holding a tiny flower in its mouth. What interesting was the interpretation of the psychology that snakes were around except me, that they could be other people, that they could be objects, and that flowers. It was a drawing that could be interpreted as being greatly influenced, overwhelmed, or even dragged around by others or something around me. It may be that the author's inner psychology applied to her works, where the main character is not a building decorated with fancy colors and lights, but a steel structure supporting the building, a piers. “I choose what no one pay attention, not main characters, as a monumental piece. Proved with paintings and sculptures from functional parts of city” <From author's note> The selection of materials also shows a trend similar to the theme of her works. A large sculpture in the center of the exhibition hall is made of polystyrene. The original purpose of the polystyrene is to keep the product intact. She makes extra main character of the exhibition. With light material to do heavy function, she is manifesting her intention to return to the origin. As such, she constructed an exhibition hall to show the beauty of the material by discovering natural beauty by taking note of what no one cares about. It will be an exhibition that links the author's own psychology, which is greatly influenced by people and sometimes drawn passively, to her works so that we can feel natural beauty about the things around us.
